OMV Petrom entrusted plant engineering company Pörner with the planning and construction of a 10,000 m3 storage tank for heavy reformate. Now, after successful commissioning, the tank, which is unique at Petrobrazi Refinery, was now handed over to the customer. This was the largest tank farm contract in the history of the Pörner subsidiary in Romania.
Romania’s leading oil and gas company OMV Petrom awarded Poerner Romania S.R.L. based in Ploiesti / Romania, a subsidiary of the Viennese plant engineering company Pörner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, the EPCM contract for the design and construction of a storage tank at the Petrobrazi Refinery in June 2020. The tank, equipped with all operational and environmental features, has an impressive diameter of 37 m and a height of 12.5 m. After successful performance tests, it was handed over to Petrom at the end of May 2022.
Already established as tank specialists, the Romanian Pörner team planned the 10,000 m3 reformate storage tank equipped with a double-bottom, double-walled, floating membrane and aluminum dome “from the first screw to the last weld”. The contract included authority engineering, detail engineering, procurement, construction management and commissioning support. DI Michael Volkmann, Managing Director of Poerner Romania is delighted: “With its outstanding dimensions and engineering requirements, this was our subsidiary’s largest tank farm contract to date. In addition to the development of a special fire-extinguishing concept, additional attention had to be paid to the revamp of a neighboring tank on the construction site. Sometimes three cranes were used in a very limited space.”
