The Pörner Group with its’ office in Budapest has been present in Hungary since 2002. It was hoped that the small engineering market in Hungary would expand with the OMV shareholding in its Hungarian counterpart MOL. However due to political intervention this merger failed to take place. This combined with the worldwide economic crisis and the loss of important customers lead to a steady decline in business for Pörner Budapest.
Recently an investor displayed interest in the company and as of March 2010 Pörner Budapest is under new management. A large part of the former Hungarian workforce will continue to be employed by the new owner.
