On 20 November 2015, the Federal Ministry for Science, Research and Economics conferred the Austrian State Award for Consulting - Engineering Consulting 2015. Pörner took part and received the nomination of the State Award for the project "Clean Air for Siberia: Planning a desulfurization plant for Norilsk Nickel".
As part of the formal reception, Pörner Ingenieurgesellschaft was delighted about winning the nomination. Peter Schlossnikel and Andreas Pörner, Managing Partners of Pörner Ingenieurgesellschaft, and Gerhard Bacher, CEO of the German Pörner office, as well as Albert Traxler, Head of Sales CIS, accepted the nomination certificate.
Consistent excellence for Pörner
Hardly any other Austrian engineering company has been repeatedly awarded like Pörner has. After winning the State Award in 1991 for the design and construction of a wastewater treatment plant, and in 2005 for the invention of Bitumen Packing System for transporting of cold bitumen in bags - Pörner was also honoured with nominations for the State Award in 1997, 2007 and 2008 for successful general planning projects. This year now the leading independent engineering company in Austria was asked again to take the stage.
Honored project "Clean air for Siberia"
The honoured Pörner project comprises the planning of an off-gas desulfurization plant for the nickel producing plant of PJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel Norilsk / Russia. The plant will reduce future sulfur dioxide emissions by 95% or more and thereby produce 600,000 tons of sulfur per year. Thus, the plant contributes very significantly to the environmental protection of the Norilsk region and the entire Arctic Circle.
The almost three years of engineering tasks that Pörner Ingenieurgesellschaft conducted included the overall coordination and management of the entire service package consisting of FEED design, authority engineering together with the therfore necessary detailed planning, current inventory, detailed environmental impact assessment (EIA) with public participation, creation of disassembly plans, planning of new plants within the factory premises, tendering the technological equipment as well as the cost and schedule planning.
Jury statement
The jury motivation for the award was: Such a highly technical mega project consisting of 25 sub plants, has never before been undertaken under such difficult conditions (nearly continuous permafrost, temperatures up to - 57 ° C, permafrost, transports only sea or flow path possible running operation).
Austrian State Award for Consulting
This year for the 22nd time, the award for Austrian Consulting - Engineering Consulting recognizes outstanding consulting services. By honoring the economic importance of the engineering consulting industry, its central role in the development of new markets for all economic sectors is emphasized. Entries were accepted in five categories: Environment and energy - infrastructure - urban and spatial planning - research and new technologies - outstanding individual engineering services.
